We are happy to welcome transfer students into the Department of Communication. Please read through our department website to familiarize yourself with major policies, procedures, and opportunities. If you have been admitted into UCSB, please send your transcripts and IGETC certification to the Office of Admissions. Note: IGETC certification must be requested separately from your community college transcript(s).

Comm advisors are here to help you navigate major requirements, but you may have some more general questions that should be answered by a College of Letters & Science advisor. Students can connect with a College of Letters & Science Academic Advisor via email, virtual appointment, or in the Transfer Student Center on the library's first floor. This is a great place to get academic advising and connect with other transfer students!

We understand you may feel excited and even anxious to get started. Below are the most important things you’ll want to complete to stay on the right path!

Transfer student Module

One of the first things transfer students should do is complete the Transfer Student Module. This will provide you with lots of information to help you prepare for your transition into UCSB. Completing this module by the assigned deadline will also qualify you for an earlier pass time. Lastly, you will receive information on preparing for Orientation Day as a Pre-Communication major.

In-person Orientation

After you have completed the module,  plan to attend the in-person Transfer Orientation Day in August. During orientation you will learn more about university systems, meet your major advisors, and receive guidance on the courses you should take in the Fall. Comm advisors will hold a workshop for incoming transfer students to guide them through reviewing their transcript(s) to determine which pre-major requirements are completed and what is still required. Students should bring a copy of their transcript(s) and a device such as a laptop with them to access the internet. After your orientation, you will have a plan for the Fall quarter and an outline of the number of units you will need to complete during your time at UCSB.
