
Bio:
Hyojin “Jamie” Lee is a doctoral student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, specifically in the Department of Communication. She received her B.A.s in Culture Design Management and Economics from Yonsei University. She completed her M.A. in Communication at Seoul National University. Hyojin’s research interests lie in taboo health topics in interpersonal communication, especially between family members and other close relationships. Based on her experiences of creating content on YouTube, Hyojin began her master’s research in media psychology and message effects, particularly in the context of sexual health. With her background in health communication and her current focus on family communication, she hopes to amend the intergenerational and cross-cultural gap among family members’ understanding of taboo and stigmatized health topics.
