Dr. Michael Stohl received the 2011 Applied/Public Policy Research Award by the International Communication Association on May 28 at the Annual Conference in Boston, MA. This award honors a scholar or group of researchers who have produced a systematic body of research in communication studying a particular applied or policy problem for the betterment of society. Professor Michael Stohl is recognized for his 30-year program of research addressing state terrorism and human rights, especially his development of the Political Terror Scale, which has been used extensively by scholars, policy researchers, the U.N., national governments, and NGOs worldwide.
