Ronald Rice is a Senior Researcher on a $1.5 million, 23-month research grant, “EnSEED (Encanto [Southeastern San Diego] Social-Economic and environmental Education Development)”. The broad social goal, out of 5 specific goals, is to “Create a model for a community-based economy and participatory climate action where energy independence can be used as a tool to rebuild socio-economic well-being, without stimulating gentrification equity.” This is part of the California Energy Commission’s research program “The Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) Challenge: Accelerating the Deployment of Advanced Energy Communities” (http://www.energy.ca.gov/contracts/GFO-15-312).
