Internships

It is a great experience to have an internship at some point during your college career.  Internships look great on your resume for future jobs and they also provide valuable knowledge, skills and networking opportunities!

The only way to receive credit for an internship if you are a communication major is to take the Comm 191 Internship Course with Professor Jansma.   This course is only open to about 30 seniors each quarter and is only offered in Winter and Spring each year.  You need to have an internship of at least ten hours per week at the time that you take the course in order to receive credit.  This class meets once a week for two hours and the coursework you have coincides with your personal internship.

If you are interested in doing a comm related internship we have some internship opportunities posted outside of Ellison 4836.  Also, there is an internship board outside of Ellison 5810 that has great opportunities posted.  If you are signed up on the Communication Listserv, you will receive emails about internship opportunities as well.  Another great way to obtain an internship is through GAUCHOLINK which is on the Career Services website at www.career.ucsb.edu.

If you still have trouble finding an internship, please contact Professor Jansma, our internship coordinator at Aljansma@impulse.net.  She will do her best to help you find an internship that is right for you.

If your employer requires a sponsor letter for liability purposes, please contact the Career Services Center at (805) 893-4412 and they can help you with that.
