Comm 199RA: Independent Research Assistant
Comm 199RA provides an opportunity for advanced students in the major to work closely with a professor on a research project.
The following are the requirements for this course: Open to upper division students with proven scholastic ability by consent of instructor and department chair. Students must:
- have upper division standing.
- have an average 3.0 GPA for the preceding three quarters.
- have completed at least 2 upper division comm courses.
- have obtained permission by a professor to sponsor your work.
- complete a proposal prior to enrolling in the course (these can be picked up in the comm office Ellison 4835 or 4836).
- submit a report at the end of the quarter to the comm department before a grade will be assigned to the course. It will be kept on file with your proposal.
To find a professor to work with, students need to ask the professors themselves. If a student has trouble finding a professor, their name can be added to a Comm 199RA waitlist that the professors may refer to if they have trouble finding students.
Comm 199RA can be taken for up to 12 units towards the comm major. While there is no actual coursework required for this class, it does require up to ten hours a week working on the research project.
