Rachyl completed her BA in Communication Studies at the University of San Diego with a minor in Spanish. Her MA is in Communication at UCSB. Her MA focused on parent-child relational quality associated with language brokers' identity goals. Rachyl also works with a team of several researchers in Australia affiliated with Griffith University and the University of Queensland using an intergroup theoretical framework to assess and improve communication quality between groups in hospitals. In this team Rachyl focuses on the use of interpreters, which often includes children language brokering for their parents. In her PhD research Rachyl plans to continue working in hospitals improving the use of interpreters.
