Abel is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Communication. His research centers on science, environmental, and health communication, with a focus in persuasion, social influence, and media effects. His dissertation tests the role of motivated reasoning in the effects of uncertainty-framed science communication. Abel graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Master's in Communicology, and also has a BA in Communication and Journalism from the University of Minnesota - Duluth.
