Colloquium Fall 2009
JUST A REMINDER THAT FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS THE COLLOQUIA ARE DESIGNED FOR ALL GRAD STUDENTS.
The series is a two-part grant writing workshop and we are excited to get everyone involved in the process.
Faculty are more than welcome to come if they want.
For each colloquium we are meeting in Theater and Dance 1710 at 3PM.
Please be there promptly. AS per the schedule we handed out earlier, the
first one is this Friday.
Friday October 16:
Part 1 -- Finding fellowships & grants
Walid, with Chan's help, will "walk" attendees through search engines and
other online sources that help you find fellowships and grants that will
fit your research interests and are available to graduate students. We
will also discuss two specifics calls with upcoming deadlines: The Ford
Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship and the NSF Graduate research
Fellowships.
Friday October 23:
Part 2 -- Writing tips
Thai Chu (Funding peer advisor, Grad Div) will offer additional tips for
finding grants & fellowships, but will focus his attention on writing tips.
Parts of an NIH video that gives an inside look onto the peer review
process for grants will also be shown.
Audience involvement, including Q&A time, will be central to these
workshops.
We plan to continue the series next quarter, at which time we hope to
include a panel of department faculty with grant-writing success to offer
tips on successful applications, among other workshop ideas.
