 KAREN KELLY Class of 1991 Citrix Online
Karen is a Partner at Search Remedy, a search engine marketing agency specializing in direct to consumer marketing, paid search management and website optimization. Concurrently, she is a Senior Marketing Programs Manager at Citrix Online where she develops integration programs with Citrix Systems. Prior to this position she served as the Director of Online Marketing at Bargain Network where she was responsible for driving online strategy, implementing marketing programs including PPC Search, Organic Search, Affiliate, Incentive and Partnerships. During the “dot com era”, Karen was Director of Marketing at the Santa Barbara Technology Group, a venture firm focusing on B2C start ups. She graduated from the University of California , Santa Barbara and completed post graduate studies in International Business and German Language at Carl Duisberg Center in Cologne , Germany . In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits, Karen enjoys life in Santa Barbara with her husband and four year old triplets.

 MARY SHIRLEY Class of 2007 Google Corporation
Mary is an Account Strategist for Online Sales and Operations at Google. She works with high potential AdWords advertisers in the Health and Wellness space. She coordinates with advertisers on their media plans for online text and display advertising, as well as works with Google TV. Mary earned a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Spanish from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She currently resides in San Francisco.

 KIBIBI SPRINGS Class of 1995 Springboard Communication
Kibibi is a marketing communications professional with a hybrid of consumer product, business development/sales and entrepreneurial experience. She has held positions with top 10 public relations firm Edelman Public Relations, non-profit organization The Milken Family Foundation, Procter & Gamble professional haircare and entertainment conglomerate, The Virgin Entertainment Group. Kibibi has top to bottom experience, strategizing, managing and executing PR and marketing campaigns for Fortune 500 brands such as Bumble Bee Tuna, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Armani Exchange, Paramount Pictures, National Geographic Entertainment, and Bailey’s to name a few. Kibibi’s post-graduate work includes a professional certification in Consumer Psychology, ’08 and a Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with the Chicago School of Professional Psychology to be completed in 2010. She serves as a member of the board of directors for the Friends of South Central Los Angeles Regional Center and continues to provide freelance marketing consulting to small businesses.

 CHRISTIAN VUONG Class of 2006 Wpromote Inc.
Christian Vuong is SEO Manager at Wpromote Inc. in Los Angeles. A two-time Inc.500 honoree, Wpromote is a leading online marketing firm that provides search engine advertising services to thousands of clients, from doctors and attorneys to Fortune 500 companies such as Adobe, Hewlett-Packard and Sony. Christian leads a team of five, developing marketing strategies that sustain and grow search traffic and rankings. An entrepreneur, he also co-founded and manages an Internet start-up business now heading into its third year. While at UCSB, he was President of Zeta Phi Rho and Co-Vice President of the Vietnamese Student Association.

 NADIA PANKRATOVA Class of 2007 Smith Geiger LLC
Nadia is a Media Research Associate at Smith Geiger LLC, the media industry’s leading market research and consulting firm headquartered in Los Angeles. Working with clients that include a Who’s Who of broadcast networks, cable networks, major studios, local television stations, distribution and production companies, and Internet companies, SmithGeiger specializes in creating unique research methods to uncover consumer attitudes and preferences. Nadia’s work encompasses various aspects of the company’s research and consulting services, with a primary focus on the development and production of high-quality, customized reports and presentations that provide clients with an in-depth, strategic research analysis and insight to help them meet their business objectives. Nadia graduated from UCSB with a B.A. in Communication and Art History. She earned High Honors in College of Letters and Science Honors Program, a Distinction in the Major for completing a senior honors thesis with faculty advisor Dr. Andrew Flanagin, and received a Steven H. Chaffee Award for Excellence in Research. While at UCSB, Nadia was also actively involved in the University life by interning at the University Art Museum, working as a market research assistant for UCSB Arts & Lectures, and serving as a VP of marketing and recruitment for Santa Barbara chapter of AIESEC.

 Danielle Black Class of 2007 Hotel Solamar
Danielle is the Lead Account Manager of Sales at the Hotel Solamar in San Diego, Ca.In this capacity, Danielle manages 103 annual based group accounts which include: Business Travel, FIT, Consortia, and National Accounts. Not only is she responsible for tracking current accounts, monitoring pick up, and making monthly sales calls to build client relationships, but she also works proactively to prospect and contract new accounts. Danielle creates and implements new added value programs catered to each client and negotiates contract terms. In addition to these duties, Danielle has created and implemented social responsibility programs that focus on promoting sustainability; Eco-friendly, pet-friendly practices; and women in business. While at UCSB, Danielle was the founding Membership Officer for the Society of Leadership and Success, member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, represented the university on the UCSB Rowing team, and completed the UCSB Leadership Program. She worked as a research assistant in the Department of Communication, received the Dumas Scholarship for excellence in writing, and published in Starting Lines in 2005.

 DAVID BORK Class of 1994 Paymerica, LLC
David is a payment processing industry entrepreneur who founded Paymerica, LLC in 2003. Paymerica is a leading provider of electronic payment services such as credit card processing and ACH to utilities, retailers and e-commerce companies. The company was purchased by Yapstone, Inc. in Dec of 2008. Yapstone caters to customers in the real estate industry such as multi-family housing, vacation rental, self-storage and with the addition of Paymerica, utility companies. David serves as the Senior Vice President of Sales leading a team focused on specific real estate verticals. A veteran of the payments industry since 1997, he previously worked for U.S. Wireless Data as a National Sales Executive, a groundbreaking wireless payments firm based in New York City. David started his career as an Account Manager for AT&T Wireless Services in Sacramento, CA.

 DREW KAIN Class of 2003 Shire Pharmaceuticals
Drew is a Senior Product Specialist for Shire Pharmaceuticals in San Jose, CA. Drew markets Fosrenol, a phosphate binder indicated to treat hyperphosphatemia in patients suffering from End-Stage Renal Disorder (ESRD). As a Senior Product Specialist, Drew’s role is to persuade Nephrologists to initiate Fosrenol as their 1st line therapy for ESRD patients. In 2007 Drew won the President’s Club award at Shire Pharmaceuticals. President’s Club is awarded to the top 5% of the sales force and is the highest honor in pharmaceutical sales. Drew is also working on a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration at California State University, East Bay. He will graduate in 2010. While at UCSB, Drew was the President of the Communication Association and interned at True North Leadership, a consulting firm in Santa Barbara, CA.

 RYAN WILSON Class of 2008 Bargain Network Inc.
Ryan Wilson is currently a National Media Buyer with Bargain Network Inc., a Vertrue holding company. With a print media budget of nearly $12 million dollars a year, the Bargain Network media department serves as an in house marketing agency supplying two call centers with over 25,000 unique calls a week. Ryan purchases advertisements for Texas, Iowa, Mississippi and Oklahoma spending $25-$30,000 a week. Upon graduating from UCSB, Ryan entered to job force as a radio Account Executive. For six months he worked on local marketing campaigns and orchestrated presentations to agencies scattered about the West Coast. While at UCSB, Ryan was a marketing intern / technical advisor for the UCSB Men’s Soccer Team and research assistant to Dr. Linda Putnam.

 SONDRA DEURLOO Class of 2007 Therapeutic Pathways
Sondra is an Instructional Assistant for Therapeutic Pathways, an early learning center for children diagnosed with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. She provides one-on-one intensive behavioral and language based therapies to children ages 2-7, both in their homes and in center-based treatment. Sondra also shadows children at public preschools to promote their independent functioning in a general education setting. In addition, she has been a substitute teacher for the Folsom-Cordova Unified School District. She is knowledgeable of school curriculum and has worked in a variety of school settings with children from different ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. She is pursuing an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology. While at UCSB, Sondra was vice-president of Lambda Pi Eta, completed a senior honors thesis with faculty advisor Dr. Miriam Metzger and received the Alumni Association Service Award.

 SUSAN GOODALE Class of 1986 UCSB Alumni Association
Susan Goodale is the Programs Director for the UCSB Alumni Association. With 20 years non-profit Alumni Association experience she manages both student and professional staff and has management and oversight of the following Association programs: Student Engagement; Regional Clubs and Constituent Groups; Alumni Career Services, Gaucho Getaways Alumni Travel Program, Advocacy, Web 2.0 and Student Awards.. She is experienced in program development and facilitation, client relationship management, customer service, strategic planning, publicity, and benchmarking execution/evaluation. Additionally, she has seven years results-oriented sales experience in the wine industry. Goodale has served on the board of directors for Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days and as a volunteer for the Santa Barbara Muscular Dystrophy Chapter's Black and Blue Ball. She currently is a member of the advisory council for the world-wide Educational Travel Community (ETC). In this role Goodale helps plan and coordinate the world-wide Educational Travel Conference and has participated in ETC exchanges with the Ministers of Tourism from Mexico, Dubai and Oman to help these countries develop enhanced travel opportunities for in-bound tourism through cultural learning in addition to their recreational offerings.

 MARNEY RANDLE Class of 2008 UCSB Housing and Residential Life
Marney is an Assistant Resident Director for the Housing & Residential Life Department at UC Santa Barbara. With this full-time, live-in position in Santa Catalina Residence Hall (formerly known as Francisco Torres), Marney is responsible for managing all aspects of the student life program for 1300 first-year students, such as programming, student accountability and counseling. With the assistance of three other Professional Staff Members, Marney supervises 21 Resident Assistants and implements RA staff development training on a weekly and quarterly basis. Additionally, she works with staff to execute many large-scale programs within the Residence Halls, such as festivals, dances, and shows that often attract as many as 800+ residents. Marney directly communicates with Resident Directors, Assistant Resident Directors, Offices of Residential Life, Housing & Residential Services, Counseling Services, and other campus offices. She serves on the Spring Insight Planning Committee, which organizes the Housing & Residential Services portion of the annual Open House for UCSB, and is also a member of the Academic Outreach Initiatives Committee. Marney graduated from UCSB with Honors and was a member of Lambda Pi Eta and Alpha Chi Omega.

 KYLE RHODES Class of 2007 Teach Brave
Kyle is co-owner and marketing director of Teach Brave, an organization that provides the means to travel and live abroad cheaply by teaching English in another country. The company was inspired by Kyle’s experiences traveling through Latin America and teaching English for a year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is currently working to expand Teach Brave’s marketing campaign across the US and to inspire more people to travel and live abroad. During his time at UCSB, Kyle was the President of Sigma Nu Fraternity and was a member of the Communication Association. He also currently works as a PR assistant at Strategic Forecasting Inc, a global intelligence agency based out of Austin, TX.

 STEVEN FINNK Class of 2000 Guggenheim Capital Markets
Steven is a Managing Director of Guggenheim Capital Markets and is responsible for trading among institutional counterparties. These products include Residential and Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities, Collateralized Debt Obligations and Consumer Based Asset Backed Securities. Steven joined Guggenheim in 2005 to develop its CDO trading desk and co-manage the ABS trading efforts. After contributing to the build-out of the group's trading infrastructure, he took on the responsibility of expanding the firm's global client reach. Prior to joining Guggenheim, he held positions with United Capital and AIG-SunAmerica. He earned a B.A. in Economics and in Communication from University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with high honors and distinction in the major. Steven was also the Vice President and Treasurer of the UCSB Alumni Association. In 2007, Trader Magazine's named Steven in the "30 under 30" special issue as one of the top 30 traders under the age of 30 across all sectors of the industry.

 Laura C. McHugh Class of 1989 McHugh & Hubbert, LLP
Laura C. McHugh is a founding partner of the law firm Rediger, McHugh & Hubbert, LLP in Sacramento, California. The firm is AV rated and exclusively represents employers in labor and employment law matters. Ms. McHugh represents employers in all types of employment cases and has litigated and tried a variety of cases, including class action cases, in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. Ms. McHugh also counsels employers on employment practices and policies including: wrongful termination, discrimination and harassment issues, wage and hour practices, discipline and dismissal, various statutory leave rights and responsibilities, interactive processes with disabled employees, drug testing, employee rights of privacy, OSHA and other workplace issues. Ms. McHugh also represents employers in traditional labor law matters related to management/union relations, including grievance and arbitration proceedings and advising employers regarding rights and obligations under federal labor law. Ms. McHugh is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law, where she was an editor for the Law Review. She externed for Justice Gerome Smith of the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District. She is a member of the Labor and Employment Law and Litigation Sections of the American, California State and Sacramento County Bar Associations. Ms. McHugh previously worked in corporate human resources for a large bank and received her B.A. degree magna cum laude in Communication Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1989.

 AMY MENKES STOODY B.A., J. D, Class of 1980 Walker & Doyle
Amy is a Certified Legal Specialist in Workers' Compensation and has worked exclusively in the field since 1988. She is a former co-chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Orange County Bar Association and a regular speaker at seminars involving current issues in Workers' Compensation law. Amy graduated with Honors from both the University of California at Santa Barbara and Western State University College of Law. While in law school, Amy received numerous American Juris Prudence Awards and served as an editor of the Law Review. Amy sits regularly as a Judge Pro Tem at the WCAB and has been named a "Super Lawyer" in Southern California by her peers and Los Angeles Magazine for the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Amy was also a featured speaker as one of America's Most Influential Women in the Law on American Airlines and is a regular legal consultant on CBS Affiliate KNX News Radio. Amy also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Boys Town California.

Seth is the Co-Founder and President of Mission Wealth Management, LLC (MWM), one of the region’s leading independent wealth advisory firms. The firm is part of the Schwab Advisor Network and is associated with Bartlett, Pringle and Wolf, LLP (BPW), the largest independent accounting firm on the Central Coast. Seth specializes in integrated financial planning, risk management, and investment advisory services for high-net-worth individuals. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the Santa Barbara Estate Planning Council, the UCSB Alumni Association, and the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO). He is also involved with local non-profit organizations as a member of the Advisory Council and Legacy Giving Team for the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, a member of the Planned Giving Committee of the Music Academy of the West and a Board member of the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association. In 2002, the Pacific Coast Business Times recognized him as a “Top 40 under 40” business leader and in 2008, Worth Magazine recognized him as one of the nation’s top wealth managers. In addition to his B.A. from UCSB, his credentials include: Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Masters in Science (MS) in Financial Planning, Certified Estate Advisor (CEA), Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFATM), CA insurance and several Securities licenses. At UCSB, he was involved in Student Government, was founding member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and worked for the UCSB grounds crew.

Karen provides strategic counsel, public affairs and management consulting for arts and entertainment nonprofits, government entities and corporate clients. Most recently, Karen served as the Interim General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and Senior Policy Analyst of Arts and Culture to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Dedicated to the advancement of the arts, Karen's leadership credentials include a statewide gubernatorial appointment as the Director of the California Film Commission; Chief of Staff to Los Angeles City Councilmember Laura Chick; as well as a Public Affairs Manager-Corporate Contributions position for a major California utility holding company. She maintains close ties and works collaboratively with elected officials, business, nonprofit and community organizations to bring about positive change and partnership opportunities.
In addition to her own consulting practice focusing on cultural development, capacity building, civic engagement, communications, fundraising and strategic planning, Karen is a Senior Partner with Allison Sampson Management Consultants and is the Consulting C.O.O. for FYAworld and ForYourArt founded by Bettina Korek. A native of Los Angeles, Karen earned a BA in Communication Studies from UC Santa Barbara.

 FRANCESCO (FRAN) D. MANCIA Class of 1980 Muniservices, LLC
Fran is the Director of Government Relations for Muniservices, LLC. and is responsible for overseeing company legislative, regulatory, and government relations activity throughout the country. With a focus on fiscal impacts to local districts, Fran monitors, analyzes and leads company lobbying efforts related to legislation, state mandates, and regulatory changes and policies that affect client revenue streams and special district tax allocation. Over the past twelve years, Fran has spent a significant portion of his time interacting with mayors and council members, members of the State Board of Equalization, county assessors and tax collectors, state legislators, and state agency directors. He recently completed a two year term as President of the League of California Cities’ Partner Program.  HEIDI HELLER NIEHART Class of 1988 For Immediate Release, Inc.
Heidi is the creator and co-producer of Tot-a-Doodle-Do, a children's educational DVD series. Heidi founded Tot-a-Doodle-Do after envisioning a television program that would incorporate follow-along activities for children. As founder and principal of For Immediate Release, Inc., a promotional marketing and events staffing agency, Heidi has over 15 years experience in public relations, marketing and event planning. She has developed marketing campaigns for Body Glove and Gold's Gym Licensees, Cox Communications, Starbucks, and Hershey's. She continues to provide freelance marketing services. In addition to being a business owner and mother of three, Heidi is a published author and former syndicated columnist. She has a B.A. degree from the University of California-Santa Barbara, a certificate from the George Washington University-Washington Representative Program, and was a G.E. Foundation Scholar at the American Women's Economic Development Center in Washington, D.C. She was also the recipient of the 2008 Redbook Magazine "Design your Life" Award.

 JESSICA McNAMARA Class of 2006 MetaDesign
Jessica currently works in Business Development at MetaDesign in San Francisco. MetaDesign creates identity systems, design strategies, and interfaces for clients from cultural institutions to global corporations. Jessica serves as a vital liaison to potential clients and works to develop clear, personal and effective approaches to solve their unique challenges by conveying the value of good design. Prior to working at MetaDesign, Jessica managed an interior design office in Montecito. She graduated with a BA in Communication and minors in Professional Writing (emphasis in Business Communication) as well as History of Art and Architecture.

 TODD GILLESPIE Class of 1992 UCSB Video Services and UCTV
Todd is an award winning producer/director who has been working in broadcast/cable for over 12 years. He the Managing Producer/Director of Video Services at UCSB and is responsible for the technical support of film studies classes taught out of their Television Studio, productions for the UCTV channel, in-house productions and the faculty media center editing labs. He is also a contributing writer for EventDV magazine (http://www.eventdv.net and forum host for CreativeCow.net, the leading industry website for film and video. He received his AA in Radio Broadcasting and obtained two Bachelors degrees, one in Communication with an emphasis in Mass Media. He worked as an intern with ABC affiliate KEYT and with Cox Communications in a senior production position of the commercial production department. In this position he broke new ground in fibre channel configurations with Media 100i systems. He is also an Apple Certified Final Cut Pro user and a recent recipient of 3 national Telly awards (www.tellyawards.com) for his short documentary about archeological work in Iceland.

 BONNIE J. GOLDFARB Class of 1982
Bonnie is the executive producer/CEO of Harvest Films, Inc., a firm that she co-founded in 2001. The company is involved in the production of television commercials. Having worked as a news reporter and disc jockey, Bonnie left the radio business (KCSB, KIST, KRTH) to travel around the world. Her interest in making commercials and treating advertising as art came from working with a mentor from the Directors Guild of America who convinced her to stay in this business. In addition to her B.A. in Communication from UCSB, she has a M.A. from the Annenberg School of Communication at the U. of Southern California.

 MARILYN JOHNSON HACKETT Class of 1974 Writer/Producer
Marilyn is a producer/writer who worked on a promotional video for the State of California Division of Tourism and televised commercials for Wal-Mart and TDC games. Currently, she is writing and producing films (KICKAPOO COUNTY and ERADICATOR) and theatrical events. Her musical production of “Wartime Romance” (www.wartimeromance.com) is in partnership for a road tour. She creates, develops and manages (budgeting; script writing; marketing and promotion; ticket sales; hiring actors, directors and stage crew; working with set, lighting, and sound designers; engaging in contract negotiations with musician unions, performing arts centers and city officials; and finding corporate sponsorships and grants. She is a member of Screen Actors Guild, Dramatists Guild of America, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Actors Equity. Prior to this, Marilyn worked at Disney Studios in public relations. She also spent a few years in Las Vegas headlining on the Las Vegas Strip and worked under Guest Artist from the Princess Cruise Lines.

 MARC JAFFE Class of 1986 Public Cable Television Authority
Marc is the Executive Director of the Public Cable Television Authority – a joint powers local government telecommunication regulatory authority that serves the cities of Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Westminster, and Stanton, California. From 1996 to 2005, Marc was the Cable Television Program Manager for the City of San Diego. In this position, he managed franchises for video service providers, negotiated telecommunications’ contracts for the city, and ran the San Diego’s award winning government access television channel. He has been involved in telecommunications regulation and access video production for the local government since 1984. Marc is a Board Member of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (SCAN-NATOA) for California and Nevada and has graduate degrees in Telecommunications Management from the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California and Public Administration from California State University-Long Beach.

 LAURA ROENICK Class of 2005 United Talent Agency’s Foundation
Laura is the Event and Project Manager for United Talent Agency's Foundation (UTA) in Beverly Hills. UTA is a leader among the entertainment industry’s literary and talent agencies, representing many of the top actors, writers, directors, and producers in the business. Within UTA's Foundation, Laura is responsible for planning and executing many company-wide charitable initiatives, maintaining relationships between the non-profit community and the agency, and helping clients and employees explore their charitable interests. In addition, she oversees the agency's employee training program. While at UCSB, Laura minored in Art History, was the founding President of Lambda Pi Eta, was President of the Communication Association, and was President of Alpha Phi Fraternity. She married in 2008 and lives in Brentwood.
