A gift to the Department of Communication will help us attract and retain those students and faculty with great academic potential, creativity, and motivation. Your gift may go to programs, scholarships, fellowships, professorships, technological innovations, research, renovations, and new facilities. No matter how large or how small, every gift makes a difference.

Opportunities for Giving

A number of funds have already been set up to support department activities. You are also invited to donate funds directly to the department for a specific purpose of your choice. Your donation may be tax deductible.

The James J. Bradac Lecture Series

Contributions in memory of James J. Bradac fund an annual lecture in his name celebrating the many areas of Jim’s scholarly interests. The series was inaugurated in 2004.

Past Lecturers include John Bowers and Ellen Ryan and their talks have been published in the Journal of Language and Social Psychology, the journal that Jim Bradac and Howard Giles co-edited, and thus the scholarship he loved is shared widely within the scholarly community. Please note on your check or correspondence that you wish the donation to be applied to the Bradac fund.

The Steven H. Chaffee Lecture Series

Contributions in memory of Steve Chaffee fund an annual lecture in his name celebrating the Steve’s interests in media and political communication. The series was inaugurated in 2006 on the fifth anniversary of Steve’s untimely death. The inaugural lecture was given by Professor Byron Reeves.

Please note on your check or correspondence that you wish the donation to be applied to the Chaffee fund.

The Lambda Pi Eta Lecture Series

Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). Each year, the UCSB chapter, working with faculty within the department, invites an NCA Distinguished Scholar, scholars who have been recognized by the association for a lifetime of scholarly achievement to present the lecture.

The Department is grateful for your support!
